When it Rains, it is Poor

The Golden Week holiday period came to a close on a stormy Sunday, with some very entertaining matches. If one distressing factor can be eliminated, this could shape up to be one of the best seasons ever.

I know - most of you readers have heard it before, and dont need to hear it again. So we provided details on the drama and excitement of this week's J.League action, and saved the ugly parts for last. If you dont want to hear the same sad diatribe again, stop reading when you see the Golden Eagle.

 

Punishing the Victims

The League finally put its foot down and took a dramatic step to address the issue of J.League officiating, and its increasingly bad reputation: From now on, anyone who criticizes a referee will be forced to stand in the corner for a week. Yup. . . . Im sure that will fix the problems once and for all.

 

Cherry Picking and Petal Plucking

The topsy turvy appearance of the J.League standings still shows no sign of reverting to a more "normal" order, with five weeks now in the books. The blossoms of spring remind us of life's impermanence, but the teams now enjoying the rarefied heights of success are hoping that their joy will not be transitory  .

 

 

Silence is Golden Week

The J.League is . . . . .  . . . . . Oh heck, why even bother? It isnt as if anyone pays attention to our constant complaints and warnings. People just tune it out. At least now we know why the three monkeys insisted on seeing no evil, hearing no evil and speaking no evil: They had all been living in Japan for too long.

It took just three weeks for two J.League coaches to lose their jobs, and one or two could join the exodus by the end of the week. The management turnover may be hasty, but it is accelerating the shift to a new generation of coaches born and bred in the unique atmosphere of Japanese football.
